| Analyst
The Person We require an individual capable of applying his or her intellect to analysing complex problems. The ideal candidate will have very high numerate and verbal reasoning skills. They are likely to have a good honours degree in mathematics (or another math-intensive subject). They will also be able to construct and present complex arguments in clear written prose and illustrations, and to brief them verbally. They are likely to be aware of techniques such as 'Multi Criteria Decision Analysis', 'Cost as an Independent Variable' and 'Quality Function Deployment', and will be proficient in the use of software tools to aid analysis. The Role The role is to carry out analysis of complex problems in order to identify optimum or near-optimum solutions, and to be capable of articulating clearly these solutions, along with the case that provides the rationale. The problem space domain is Defence and Aerospace, although domain knowledge is less important than intellect, analysis skill and communication ability. Typical problem areas are: - Acquisition strategies. What is the optimum acquisition strategy for government to adopt in realising a capability provided by a programme of a multitude of projects and systems?
- Transition analysis. Given an established legacy fleet or set of systems (e.g. of helicopters or armoured vehicles), and options to move to a new state - mixes of upgrading systems, buying new ones, leasing, contracting for service provision, etc., what is the optimum road map to the end state?
- System options, architecture options and technology options. Given a range of options and many potential mixes of options, what are the optimum choices and what is the optimum mix?
- Countering systems or enterprises. What is the most cost effective or least risky way of countering an enemy or threatening system or enterprise?
